Dans le cadre de la sortie du futur second album « The Gathering Of Dreams », Marco Pastorino, guitariste/chanteur de Fallen Sanctuary a accepté de consacrer son temps pour une interview avec nous. Un grand merci à lui pour sa confiance et le temps qu’il a pris de répondre à nos questions !

Thème 1 : La conception de « The Gathering Of Dreams »
Comment votre nouvel album « The Gathering Of Dreams » a-t-il été élaboré ? Avez-vous rencontré des difficultés particulières ?
Tout était assez simple pour nous.
Je dois dire qu’on a terminé l’écriture de l’album il y a quelques années. On était pris avec nos autres groupes, autres projets etc.
On ne pouvait pas finaliser l’album mais l’année dernière on a tout fait. On a écrit les paroles et enregistré les chansons.
Depuis qu’on est indépendants, on doit tout faire de notre côté. On a besoin d’un peu de temps, ça c’est sûr. Mais en gros, Georg et moi faisons tout. Tout s’est bien déroulé pour l’album, on en est extrêmement heureux et fiers.
Il y a diverses influences à travers cet album, ce qui le rend très riche et plus Power Metal. Comment le caractériserais-tu par rapport au précédent ?
Je suis totalement d’accord que cet album est plus rapide que le précédent.
Pour sûr, pendant des années de musiciens, on a amélioré nos compétences.
Je pense que c’est plus Power Metal que le premier album « Terranova » mais bien sûr il y a notre marque de fabrique classique à Georg et moi concernant l’écriture : chœurs, harmonies, de grands refrains, de grandes mélodies…
C’est sûr, l’album est plus Power Metal même s’il y a des morceaux mid-tempo par-ci, par-là. C’est ça la plus grande différence.
Cet album est vraiment orienté Power Metal à l’ancienne, tout en gardant ta personnalité et celle de Georg Neuhauseur, ce qui amène à un rendu final très intéressant. Penses-tu que cela correspond bien au style de Fallen Sanctuary ?
Je pense oui ! Même durant le premier album on a apporté cette marque de fabrique.
Selon moi, c’est très cool car si Georg on a de nouvelles idées de chansons, on est capables de comprendre si ça se rapproche plus de Fallen Sanctuary, Temperance ou Serenity.
Je suis un peu inspiré du Power Metal du début des années 2000 avec des groupes tels que Edguy, Sonata Arctica ou les premiers albums d’Avantasia. C’est plus Fallen Sanctuary. Si c’est plus mid-tempo ou comme Kamelot, ça se rapproche plus de Serenity. Si c’est plus moderne, influencé par des voix lyriques, alors c’est du Temperance.
Certains titres comme « Never Give up » ou « Shadows of Love » se rapprochent du style de Temperance, tout en gardant cet aspect Power Metal old school propre à Fallen Sanctuary. Es-tu d’accord avec ça ?
Tout à fait d’accord ! A mon avis les chansons que j’ai écrites comme « Never Give up » ou « The Gathering of Dreams » sont totalement du Temperance. C’est la manière dont j’écris la musique en gros.
Mais la façon dont Georg et moi écrivons la musique c’est Fallen Sanctuary. Par exemple, le premier single « Nothing Can Keep Us Apart » sonne très Fallen Sanctuary je dirais.
Evidemment, on peut trouver des styles différents. Pour moi, « Dawn with No Return » c’est très Serenity.
Idem, on a même des éléments Folk sur « Dawn with No Return » voire de Pop sur « Time Won’t Wait ». Comment expliques-tu toutes ces variations riches ?
Quand j’ai écrit toutes les parties de « Dawn with No Return », je pensais à un riff de guitare de Serenity mais avec même des influences de Rhapsody. C’est le style qu’on aime Georg et moi.
Mais comme t’as dit, des titres comme « Time Won’t Wait » sonnent très Pop. La Pop est un de mes styles préférés en vrai. Tu peux trouver des influences Pop à travers beaucoup de mes titres. Par exemple sur le titre « The Gathering of Dreams », même sur « Amen » qui sonne très Pop selon moi.
Thème 2 : Le style Fallen Sanctuary
Qu’est-ce qui vous a poussé, toi et Georg, à vous réunir pour ce projet Power Metal ?
En gros, en 2018 Georg m’a demandé de collaborer et d’écrire des chansons avec lui, surtout pour Serenity. On a écrit 3 ou 4 pour l’album de Serenity « The Last Knight ».
Ensuite, on était en pleine pandémie en 2020. Comme tu peux l’imaginer on était forcés à rester chez soi. Avec Georg on a décidé d’essayer d’écrire des musiques plus Power Metal.
On n’avait aucune attente mais on était plutôt satisfaits du résultat final. On a essayé d’enregistrer quelques titres tels que « Terranova » ou « Broken Dreams ».
Puis, on s’est dit qu’on devait sortir un album avec un nouveau projet. On ne savait encore pas si ce serait un groupe qui partirait en tournée ou un projet solo.
C’est très difficile pour nous de faire de Fallen Sanctuary un groupe de tournée car on est très occupés avec Serenity et Temperance ou autres.
Mais on attire l’attention de notre label et de nos fans. Je dois dire que le premier album était un succès mondial, surtout en Europe et au Japon mais aux Etats-Unis. Alors on devait en sortir un deuxième.
Georg est mon meilleur ami alors on s’est bien amusé à l’écrire. C’est notre chance de jouer du Power Metal des débuts et c’est probablement le style préféré de Georg et l’un des miens aussi. J’écoute de la Pop, des OST et autres mais j’adore vraiment les premiers groupes de Power Metal, même des plus petits groupes comme Silent Force, Dionysus, une tonne de groupes différents… C’est la raison pour laquelle on a fondé Fallen Sanctuary.
Comment trouvez-vous l’inspiration au niveau de l’écriture ? Qu’est-ce qui distingue Fallen Sanctuary de tes deux groupes respectifs (Serenity et Temperance) sur ce point ?
Quand je compose de la musique, c’est le même procédé que Serenity, Temperance ou Fallen Sanctuary.
Au niveau des paroles, c’est un peu différent. Par exemple, pour le prochain album de Temperance, Kristin a écrit toutes les paroles car son niveau d’anglais est meilleur que le mien (rires).
En réalité on a annoncé le nouvel album il y a une heure. Le nouvel album portera sur les cartes du tarot.
Pour Fallen Sanctuary, c’est différent. On parle de nos vies personnelles ou autres points du même style. On a écrit quelques paroles personnelles sur le dernier. On a travaillé dessus lors du dernier mois. On en est si fiers car je pense que ce sont les meilleures paroles que je n’ai jamais écrites dans ma vie.
Par exemple, le premier single « Nothing Can Keep us Apart » est un titre de Power Metal qui parle d’amour. C’est une chanson d’amour avec de la double pédale (rires). J’ai hâte que l’album sorte.
Thème 3 : Regard vers l’avenir
Sur la pochette de l’album on retrouve le même personnage sous un aspect différent. Que représente cette mascotte (si c’en est une) ?
C’est une question très cool. En vrai non, mais c’est très inspiré du premier album, on a décidé d’avoir une sorte de connexion entre les albums et les pochettes.
Ce n’est pas une mascotte mais ça pourrait une bonne idée même pour le merch je dois dire (rires).
Le titre de l’album est « The Gathering Of Dreams ». Ce n’était pas facile de représenter une pochette en lien avec le titre. Alors c’est un peu personnel. Mais je pense, sur ce point, comme pour le premier album, le super artiste talentueux nommé Gustavo Sazes a réalisé la pochette et savait ce qu’on voulait dire pour le deuxième album. Alors je crois que ça représente parfaitement le titre.
Vois-tu Fallen Sanctuary évoluer de la même façon que Serenity ou Temperance ?
On ne sait jamais. Ne jamais dire jamais. On ne sait jamais ce qui peut se passer en live. Mais, jusqu’à maintenant, on essaiera de garder Fallen Sanctuary en tant que projet studio.
Par exemple, dans quelques mois, on jouera quelques concerts acoustiques juste Georg et moi en Europe.
On a aucun plan pour des concerts entiers avec tout le groupe. On l’a fait avant pour notre premier album. Puis il y aura le nouvel album de Temperance avec de nouvelles tournées. L’année prochaine il y aura un nouvel album de Serenity avec aussi une nouvelle tournée.
C’est plutôt difficile de tout organiser mais on verra. On ne sait pas ce qui se passera. On ne sait jamais.
Thème 4 : Questions annexes
Et sinon un nouveau single de Temperance nommé « The Devil: Sin, Sin, Sin » est sorti sur les plateformes aujourd’hui ! Est-ce le signe d’un nouvel album prévu pour cette année ?
On a juste annoncé « Arcani » qui est une carte du tarot. Il y aura 13 chansons. On est vraiment trop contents.
J’ai produit l’album l’an dernier mais en gros j’ai écrit l’album il y a un an.
Ensuite on a finalisé l’album fin 2025. Alors on devait attendre pour dévoiler les nouvelles et maintenant on doit attendre pour sortir l’album.
Fin octobre, on sera en tournée en Europe avec Kamelot.
L’année prochaine, il y aura plus de concerts, plus de festivals et autres.
On est trop contents pour ça. C’est une sorte « retour aux sources pour Temperance » car notre précédent album « Hermitage » était un album concept avec une vibe Prog même avec du Power Metal ici et là.
Je pense que ce nouvel album sera plus du Temperance. On a de puissants singles, quelques longs morceaux… Cet album est très grand. Je ne peux vraiment pas attendre de le sortir en octobre !
Pourquoi avoir choisi comme thématique les cartes du tarot ?
En gros, Temperance est l’une des cartes du tarot. Ensuite Kristin a eu l’idée de construire un monde autour des cartes du tarot. C’est pourquoi il s’appelle « Arcani ».
Je pense qu’elle a fait un travail incroyable au niveau des paroles. C’est très cool la manière dont on a composé l’album car habituellement c’est moi qui écris les chansons et propose la musique.
Par exemple, il y a une chanson, la chanson d’ouverture de l’album nommée « The Fool » on a fait une sorte d’expérience. Elle a écrit les paroles et j’ai composé la musique sur ses paroles. A mon avis c’était la première fois pour Temperance qu’on a fait quelque chose comme ça.
Le résultat final est génial. Je pense que c’est l’un de mes albums de Temperance préférés de tous les temps. C’est très Power Metal donc je suis sûr que tu aimeras !
Est-ce qu’on peut avoir des infos sur le prochain album de Serenity ou ça reste encore un secret pour le moment ?
Alors on travaille encore sur des détails. Au niveau de l’écriture c’est complètement terminé. On travaille sur l’enregistrement en ce moment et je pense que le mixage commencera dans quelques semaines ou quelques mois.
A mon avis cet album est suite parfaite à « Nemesis AD ».
Il y a quelques chansons que j’adore. On a passé beaucoup de temps avec Georg en studio. C’est très orienté vers le style Serenity. On a différents éléments comme des ballades ou des morceaux rapides.
Il sortira l’année prochaine comme on fêtera les 20 ans du groupe alors on essaiera de construire quelque chose de spécial. On annoncera ça très bientôt.
Sera-t-il dans la continuité du précédent au niveau des paroles et de la musique ?
Il ne portera pas uniquement sur un seul personnage. Il y aura encore quelques chansons inspirées par Albrecht Dürer. Il a fait une tonne d’œuvres on peut écrire 10 albums sur lui.
Selon moi, on travaille sur une ballade de Serenity et c’est ma préférée de toute la discographie. On verra si ça marche mais j’en suis très content.
Si on revient à Fallen Sanctuary, est-ce qu’une tournée et un concert en France serait envisageable après la sortie de ce superbe album ?
On n’a rien de planifié pour l’instant. Mais comme j’ai dit avant, je ne suis pas certain qu’on planifiera des concerts car on a nos concerts acoustiques Georg et me. Rien n’est planifié mais on verra avec un peu de chance.
Ou sinon l’Epic Fest serait un super endroit pour vous produire ! Qu’en penses-tu ? Sachant qu’on s’est déjà rencontrés là-bas.
Pas certain avec Fallen Sanctuary mais je reviendrai sûrement jouer à l’Epic Fest avec d’autres groupes.
Autre chose à ajouter ?
On est un groupe indépendant. Donc notre nouvel album n’est disponible que sur notre site et nulle part ailleurs.

NEW ALBUM : INTERVIEW WITH FALLEN SANCTUARY
1st Theme: The conception of « The Gathering Of Dreams »
How was your new album « The Gathering Of Dreams » created? Did you meet some difficulties?
Everything was quite easy for us.
I have to say we completed the songwriting of this album a couple of years ago. We were busy with other bands, other projets, other stuff…
We were not able to finalise the album but the last year we went for everything. We wrote the lyrics, we recorded the songs.
Since we are independent, we have to do everything on our own. For sure, we need a little bit time. But basically, Georg and me do everything. The album went great, we are extremely happy and proud about it.
There are various influences in this new album, which makes it valuable and more Power Metal. How could you compare it to the previous one?
I totally agree that the new album is faster than the previous one.
For sure, during the years as musicians, we are improving our skills.
I think it’s more Power Metal than the debut album « Terranova » but of course there is the classical trademark of me and Georg’s songwriting : choirs, harmonies, big choruses, strong melodies…
For sure, the album is more Power Metal even though there are some mid-tempos here and there. That’s the biggest difference I think.
This album is an old school Power Metal one, by keeping your personnality and Georg Neuhauseur’s, the finish is very interesting. Do you think it matches with Fallen Sanctuary’s style?
I think so! Even during the debut album we brought the trademark for the band.
In my opinion, it’s very cool because if Georg or me we have some ideas for new tracks, we are able to understand if this song could be for Fallen Sanctuary, Temperance or Serenity.
I’m a little bit inspired by early 2000’s Power Metal like Edguy, Sonata Arctica or the first albums of Avantasia. It’s more Fallen Sanctuary. If it’s more mid-tempo or like Kamelot, it’s more Serenity. If it’s more modern, influenced by operatic vocals, then it’s Temperance.
Some titles like « Never Give up » or « Shadows of Love » come closer to Temperance’s style, by keeping this old school Power Metal old school specific to Fallen Sanctuary. Do you agree with that?
Totally agree! I think the songs I wrote on my own like « Never Give up » or « The Gathering of Dreams » are totally Temperance. That’s the way I write music basically.
But the way Georg and me write music is Fallen Sanctuary. For exemple, the first single « Nothing Can Keep Us Apart » is very Fallen Sanctuary I would say.
For sure, you can find some different styles. In my opinion, « Dawn with No Return » is very Serenity.
In the same way, we can hear Folk elements on « Dawn with No Return » like Pop elements on « Time Won’t Wait ». How can you explain all these great variations?
When I wrote the full part of « Dawn with No Return », I thought about guitar riff of Serenity but even with some Rhapsody influences. That’s the style Georg and me like.
But as you said, tracks like « Time Won’t Wait » are very Pop. Pop music is one of my favourite style actually. You can find Pop influences on many of my tracks. For exemple on the title « The Gathering of Dreams », even in « Amen » which is a very Pop track in my opinion.
2nd Theme: Fallen Sanctuary’s style
What pushed, you and Georg, into gathering together for this Power Metal project?
Basically, in 2018 Georg asked me to collaborate and write songs with him, especially for Serenity. We wrote 3 or 4 tracks for the Serenity album « The Last Knight ».
Then, we were in the middle of the pandemic on 2020. As you can imagine we were forced to stay at home. With Georg we decided to try to write different music more Power Metal.
We didn’t have any expectations but we were quite satisfied about the final result. We tried to record some tracks like « Terranova » or « Broken Dreams ».
Then, we said to each other we had to do an album with a new project. We didn’t know if it would be tour band or a solo project yet.
It’s very difficult for us to make Fallen Sanctuary a tour band because we are very busy with Serenity and Temperance or other stuff.
But we catch attention for our formal label and our fans. I have to say the debut album was a great success worldwide, especially in Europe and Japan but even in U.S. So we had to do a second one.
Georg is my best friend so we had a lot of fun doing this. It’s our only chance to do early Power Metal and it’s probably the favourite kind of music of Georg and one of my favourite as well. I listen to Pop music, soundtrack and stuff like that but I really love early Power Metal bands, even small bands like Silent Force, Dionysus, tons of different bands… That’s the reason why we built up Fallen Sanctuary basically.
How do you find inspiration concerning the lyrics? How can you tell the difference between Fallen Sanctuary and your other bands (Serenity and Temperance)?
When I write music, it’s the same process as Serenity, Temperance or Fallen Sanctuary.
Lyrical wise, it’s a little bit different. For exemple, for the next Temperance album Kristin wrote all the lyrics because her english skills are better than mine (laughs).
Actually we just announced the new album one hour ago. The new album is about the tarot cards.
For Fallen Sanctuary, it’s different. We can talk about personal life or stuff like that. We wrote some personal lyrics for the new one. We worked in the last month about it. We are so proud about it because I think it’s one of the best lyrics I ever wrote in my life.
For exemple, the first single « Nothing Can Keep us Apart » is a Power Metal track with love lyrics. It’s a love song with double kick (laughs). I cannot wait to release the entire album.
3rd Theme: About the future
On the new album’s cover, we can find the same mascott as the previous one. What does this mascott mean?
That’s a very cool question. Actually not, but it’s very inspired by the first album because we decided to have a sort of connection between the albums and the covers.
It’s not a mascott but it could be a good idea even for the merch I have to say (laughs).
The title of the album is « The Gathering Of Dreams ». It was not easy to represent in a cover artwork for the title. So it’s a little bit personal. But I think, in this case, as for the first album the amazing artist called Gustavo Sazes did the artwork and knew what we meant for the second album. So I think it represents perfectly the title.
Do you think Fallen Sanctuary will evolve in the same way as Serenity and Temperance?
You never know. Never say never. We never know what will be happening live. But, so far, we will try to keep Fallen Sanctuary as a studio project.
For exemple, in the next months, we will play few acoustic shows just Georg and me in Europe.
We don’t have any plans for a full band shows. We did it in the past for the previous album. Then there will be a new Temperance album with new tours. Next year there will be a new Serenity album with new tour as well.
It’s quite difficult to organize everything but let’s see. You don’t know what will happen. We never know.
4th Theme: Side questions
By the way, a new single of Temperance has been released and it’s called « The Devil: Sin, Sin, Sin »! Can you talk about the new album?
We just announced the album called « Arcani » which is a tarot card. There will be 13 tracks. We are really excited about it.
I produced the album last year but basically I wrote the album one year ago.
Then we finalised the album at the end of 2025. So we had to wait to release the news and now we have to wait to release the album.
At the end of october, we are on tour in Europe with Kamelot.
Next year, there will be more shows, more festivals and stuff like that.
We’re extremely happy about it. It’s a sort of « back to the roots for Temperance » because our previous album « Hermitage » was a concept album with a Prog vibe even with some Power Metal here and there.
I think this new album is more Temperance. You have strong singles, a couple of long tracks… This album is very big. I really cannot wait to release it in october!
Why did you decide to talk about tarot cards?
Basically, Temperance is one of the cards of the tarot world. Then Kristin has got the idea to build a world about the tarot cards. That’s why it’s called « Arcani ».
I think she did an amazing job on the lyrics. It’s very cool the way we made the album because usually it’s me writing the tracks and deliver the music.
For exemple, there is one track, the opening track of the album called « The Fool » where we did a sort of experiment. She wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music on the lyrics. I think it was the first time for Temperance we did something like that.
The final result is great. I think it’s one of my favourite Temperance album ever. It’s very Power Metal so I’m sure you will love it!
Can we have some information about the new Serenity album as well or is it still a secret for the moment?
So we’re still working on the details. Songwriting wise is completely done. We are working on recording and I think mix will start in few weeks or months.
I think the album is the perfect follow-up for « Nemesis AD ».
There are some tracks I really love. We spent so much time with Georg in studio. It’s very oriented to Serenity. We have different stuff from ballads to fast tracks as well.
It will be released next year as we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band so we will try to build up something special. We will announce it extremely soon.
Will it talk about Albrecht Dürer like the previous one or something/somebody else?
The next one won’t be completely on one character. There will be again some tracks inspired by Albrecht Dürer. He did tons of different stuff we can do 10 albums about him.
In my opinion, we are working on a Serenity ballad and it’s my favourite one of the discography. Let’s see how it will work but I’m happy about it.
Let’s talk about Fallen Sanctuary again. Do you think a tour as a headliner will be possible? Will you come to France in the future?
There’s nothing panned yet. But as I’ve said before I’m not sure we will plan some band shows because we have acoustic shows Georg and me. Nothing is planned yet but let’s see hopefully.
Anyway, the Epic Fest could be the perfect place for you! What do you think about it? We already met each other there.
I’m not sure with Fallen Sanctuary but I will come back to play at the Epic Fest with some bands.
Something else to conclude?
We are an independent band. So our new album is available on our store and nowhere else.
