David Baßin, chanteur, et Andreas Dockhorn, bassiste de Victorius, ont pu nous accorder une interview après leur concert à l’Epic Fest 2026. L’occasion pour nous d’en savoir plus sur l’histoire du groupe et de leur lien avec leur univers atypique mêlé de guerriers dinosaures de l’espace qui combattent des ninjas…

Quel est votre ressenti de jouer à l’Epic Fest ? Que pensez-vous de ce festival ?
Andreas : Je suis allé à l’Epic Fest il y a 3 ans et la première chose que je me demandais c’était « pourquoi il n’y a pas 3 jours ? ». Parce que putain c’est incroyable !
Les groupes, la communauté, tout ce qui suit… C’est parfait pour nous car typiquement l’état d’esprit avec lequel on vit.
Donc pour moi c’est un véritable honneur de jouer ici et il n’y a pas tant de festivals Power Metal que ça dans le monde alors on est vraiment ravis d’être là.
David : Cela combine musique, fantaisie et les cosplays. Cela rend trop bien !
On est allés au coin gaming, films et fantaisie…. C’est l’endroit idéal pour nous !
Vous arrivez à vos 15 ans de carrière, comment le vivez-vous ?
Andreas : C’est sûr que c’est différent d’aujourd’hui de la façon dont on voulait faire de la musique.
David : Juste découvrir la scène, jouer des instruments, quelque chose comme ça ! Cela se résout. Qui on est et ce qu’on veut.
Andreas : Je pense que c’est il y a environ 15 ans qu’on a sorti notre premier album et c’est il y a longtemps en vrai.
On a sorti plusieurs albums et changé notre style au fil des années. C’est ça l’aventure et on n’a rien planifié depuis le début.
Un nouvel album arrive la semaine prochaine. Comment pouvez-vous le décrire par rapport aux précédents ?
David : En 2020, on a décidé de combiner notre nouveau style avec des dinosaures et aussi des ninjas. Ensuite, on a combiné ça à un univers cinématique façon Marvel. On a assemblé tout ça ensemble.
Maintenant on veut aller plus loin. On veut ajouter plus d’effets cinéma, plus de drama, plus de tension, plus militaire…
On veut écrire une partition de film à ce conflit épique ou ce dessin animé du matin pour un conflit comme celui-ci.
On veut explorer et faire tout ça mieux.
Pourquoi ces incroyables armures dorées sur scène ? Quels personnages représentez-vous exactement ?
David : Le doré représente le bon côté. On est les guerriers d’or et on combat le clan maléfique des ninjas. Alors on a besoin de quelque chose de puissant et brillant.
Andreas : Le concept derrière ces costumes était ainsi « A quoi ressemblent des guerriers dinosaures ? ». C’est médiéval mais pas vraiment. Peut-être qu’ils ont des armes laser ou bien de simples armes. Combinons tout.
Sur scène on a un château mais c’est dans l’espace, dans le futur.
David : Oui on combine médiéval et espace.
Le concept de SF mêlé de dinosaures et de ninjas a réussi à forger votre personnalité depuis votre premier EP « Dinosaur Warfare – Legend Of The Power Saurus ». Comment avez-vous eu cette inspiration ?
David : On a grandi avec toutes les séries et dessins animés des années 90 tels que les Power Rangers ou Extrêmes Dinosaures.
Andreas : Et aussi avant qu’on produise « Dinosaur Warfare », Kung Fury était vraiment quelque chose. Si vous ne connaissez pas, regardez sur YouTube ! C’est un court-métrage avec des raptors laser et autres trucs dans le même style. C’est comme notre enfance mais combiné avec de la musique de dessin animé.
Les premiers albums étaient différents. Comment expliquez-vous ce changement ?
David : Au début, on faisait juste de la musique comme on le sentait. Plus tard, on a mis des sonorités Pop. Je me souviens de la première chanson où on a choisi cette direction c’était « Dragonheart » sur « Dreamchaser », il inclut Angus McFife (l’ancien Angus McSix).
Je pense qu’avec cette chanson on était d’installer le développement de ce nouveau style. Cette chanson était plus joyeuse. On a commencé à jouer du Metal avec des riffs, de la double pédale et tout avec une ambiance Pop.
Comment trouvez-vous l’inspiration pour écrire vos textes et réussir à faire se rencontrer tout cet ensemble ?
David : On trouve l’inspiration partout. Cela peut provenir des jeux vidéo, des films, des dessins animés… Les Power Rangers et autres. On tente de créer notre propre univers.
On a grandi avec des jeux comme Pokémon et Zelda. J’adore aussi Final Fantasy.
Andreas : On a grandi avec jeux de fantaisie, de stratégie etc.
Les jeux vidéo ont une place importante pour nous. Les OST sont incroyables. J’en écoute souvent. L’atmosphère est si particulière. Cela a beaucoup de potentiel quand on regarde ça à travers de l’art.
Quelles sont vos principales influences ?
Andreas : Pour moi c’est relativement simple. J’ai vraiment grandi avec des groupes comme Manowar, Helloween ou Blind Guardian. Je les adore toujours encore aujourd’hui. C’est ce qui m’a influencé à jouer de la basse et faire de la musique.
David : Pour moi, Ma principale influence était Nightwish. Mais aussi des groupes comme Gamma Ray, Helloween ou Hammerfall.
Pourquoi avoir choisi comme nom de groupe Victorius ?
Andreas : Ce n’est pas une histoire intéressante en vrai (rires). On a créé un nouveau groupe, on a trouvé un nom mais c’était déjà pris. C’était Centurion et ça n’aurait pas collé aujourd’hui.
On a juste fait une liste avec des noms cools de groupes de Power Metal et Victorius était celui qui restait.
L’idée est que quand vous êtes avec nous, vous êtes victorieux !
On a bien reconnu le thème de Jurassic Park sur le solo du titre « Victorious Dinogods ». Y aura-t-il d’autres clins d’œil comme ça à l’avenir ?
Andreas : Je pense que le premier album sera le premier sans hommage à d’autres groupes. En général, C’est influencé à 100% de l’extérieur.
On a aussi joué le thème principal de Power Rangers sur le titre « Legend of the Power Saurus ».
David : Je pense que c’est la meilleure chose que d’avoir quelques spécificités sur les albums.
Quels sont vos films Jurassic Park préférés ?
Andreas : Le premier !
Le deuxième est ok mais le troisième est meh. Les autres n’existent pas pour moi.
David : Fun fact, j’attends le blu-ray de « Primitive War ». J’espère le regarder dans les prochains jours. Cela combine des dinosaures et de la guerre donc c’est parfait pour nous.
Andreas : Je recommande « The VelociPastor » qui est un nanar. Le combat est fun et je veux une suite.
On considère Victorius comme un groupe de Power Metal moderne axé sur le second degré. Êtes-vous d’accords avec ça ?
Andreas : Notre musique c’est du Power Metal mais je ne dirais pas que la musique en elle-même c’est de la parodie. Les éléments de parodie viendraient des paroles qui sont exagéré dans notre visuel.
Si quelqu’un qui ne parle pas anglais écoute notre musique, la première pensée sera « Ouais c’est du Power Metal ».
On reste encrés à nos racines Power Metal mais on n’use pas d’éléments modernes tels que des sons de danse.
Mais la différence entre Helloween et nous restent les synthés.
David : Après si vous voulez danser, allez-y (rires).
Pensez-vous être en tête d’affiche un jour ? Une tournée en France serait envisageable ?
Andreas : On sera en tête d’affiche la semaine prochaine en Allemagne et en Autriche mais on ne vient pas en France. On espère à l’avenir !
On a joué en France il y a des années au Rising Fest à Dijon. Aussi au Metal Thunder Jackets à Lyon au CCO.
Autre chose à ajouter pour conclure ?
David : Tout d’abord, notre nouvel album « World War Dinosaur » sortira le 17 avril alors allez l’acheter ! Soutenez-nous ! Regardez nos tournées pour venir nous voir !

DINO WARRIORS FROM SPACE : INTERVIEW WITH VICTORIUS
How do you feel to be here at the Epic Fest? What do you think about the festival?
Andreas : I went to the Epic Fest 3 years ago and the first thing I was wondering was « why don’t they have 3 days? ». Because it’s fucking amazing!
The bands, the community, all the stuff going on… It’s perfect for us because it’s exactly the spirit that we cooperate.
So for me it’s a great honor to play here and there’s not so much Power Metal festivals in the world so we are very happy to be here.
David : It combines music, fantasy and the cosplays. It fits so well!
We went to the gaming stuff, movies and fantasy…. It’s perfect for us!
Victorius is 15 years now. What’s your feeling about it?
Andreas : It’s sure we started the way before like we wanted to play music.
David : Just discovering music scene, playing intruments, something like that! It’s just figuring out. What we are and want to create.
Andreas : I think it’s about 15 years we released our first album and it’s a long time actually.
We put several albums out there and changed our style a bit over the years. It’s journey and we didn’t plan it from the start.
Your new album is coming next week. How can you describe it in comparaison with the previous ones?
David : In 2020, we decided to define that new style with dinosaurs and also ninjas. Then, we combined it to this cinematic universe like Marvel. We put all of these together.
Now we want to go step further. We want to add more cinematic, more drama, more tension, more military…
We want to write a movie score to this epic conflict or a morning cartoon for a conflict like this.
We want to explore and do better everything.
The concept mixing SF with dinosaurs and ninjas forged your personnality since your first EP « Dinosaur Warfare – Legend Of The Power Saurus ». How did find this inspiration?
David : We grew up with all the series and cartoons from the 90’s like Power Rangers or Extreme Dinosaurs.
Andreas : And also before we did « Dinosaur Warfare », Kung Fury was a big thing. If you don’t know, check this on YouTube! It’s a short movie with laser raptors and stuff like that. It’s like our childhood but combined with a cartoon soundtrack.
First albums were different from the last ones. How can you explain this change?
David : At the beginning, we were just doing the music that we felt. Later on, we put some Pop vibes. I remember the first track we chose that direction was « Dragonheart » on « Dreamchaser », it features Angus McFife (the old Angus McSix).
I think with this song we were already on the sitting of the development with the new music. This track is more light-hearted. We started to play Metal with riffs, double bass and everything with Pop music vibes.
You’ve got these amazing golden armors on stage. What do these characters mean?
David : The gold means the good sign. We are the golden warriors and we fight the evil ninja clan. So we need something powerful and shiny.
Andreas : The concept behind the costumes was like « What do dino warriors look like ? ». It’s kind of medieval but not really. Maybe they have laser weapons or maybe regular weapons. Let’s just combine everything.
On stage we have a castle but it’s space, it’s in the future.
David : Yes we combine medieval and space.
How do you find inspiration to write the lyrics?
David : We take inspiration from everything. It can be gaming, movies, cartoons… Power Rangers and stuff like that. We try to create our own world.
We grew up with games like Pokémon and Zelda. I also love Final Fantasy.
Andreas : We grew up with fantasy games, strategy games and stuff like that.
Gaming is important for us. The gaming soundtrack is amazing. I often listen to it. The atmosphere and the mood are so special. It has so much potential when you look art.
What are your main influences?
Andreas : For me it’s relatively easy. I really grew up with bands like Manowar, Helloween or Blind Guardian. I really love them until this day. This is what influenced to start playing the bass and make music.
David : For me, my main influence was Nightwish. But also bands like Gamma Ray, Helloween or Hammerfall.
Why did you choose Victorius as a band’s name?
Andreas : It’s not an interesting story actually (laughs). We made a new band, we found a name but it was already taken. It was Centurion and it wouldn’t fit with us today.
We just made a list with really cool Power Metal bands’ name and Victorius only remained so we took that.
The vibe is when you’re with us, you’re victorious!
We recognized the main theme of Jurassic Park on the guitar solo’s title « Victorious Dinogods ». Will there be other easter eggs like this on other titles?
Andreas : I think the new album will be the first with no homage to other artists. In general, it’s 100% influenced from outside.
We also have the main theme of Power Rangers on the title « Legend of the Power Saurus ».
David : I think it’s the best thing to have some other specials in the records.
What are your favourite Jurassic Park movies?
Andreas : The first one!
The second one is ok and the last one is meh. The other ones don’t exist to me.
David : Fun fact, I’m waiting for a blu-ray of « Primitive War ». I hope during the next few days I will watch it. It combines dinosaurs and war so it’s perfect for us.
Andreas : I recommend « The VelociPastor » which is a trash movie. The combat is really funny and I want a second movie.
We consider Victorius as a modern Power Metal band with parody. Do you agree with that?
Andreas : Music is Power Metal but I wouldn’t say the music itself is parody. The parody elements would come from the lyrics which are over the top in our visual style.
If someone doesn’t understand english and listens to our music, the first thought will be « Yeah it’s Power Metal ».
We stay true on our Power Metal roots but we don’t have modern stuff like dance elements.
I think the difference from Helloween with us is the keyboards.
David : But if you want to dance, you can (laughs).
Do you think you will be headliner in the future? Is a tour in France possible?
Andreas : We are headliner on tour next week in Germany and Austria but we don’t come to France. We hope to come to France in the future!
We played in France some years ago at the Rising Fest in Dijon. Also at the Metal Thunder Jackets in Lyon at the CCO.
